Aboriginal Art Opportunity

The City of Hobart is looking for an Aboriginal artist or a group of Aboriginal artists to provide artwork for the new Elizabeth Street Mall Information Hub.

The artwork may respond to the history of the area, or to its role as a community meeting place and a commercial hub.  The artwork should also fit well with the Information Hub as a place of welcome for people exploring Hobart and Tasmania.

The core service provider at the Elizabeth Street Mall Information Hub is the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre. Visit the travel centre website.

This project aims to:

  • create a spirit of welcome for locals and visitors to Hobart
  • inspire curiosity and connection with Aboriginal culture
  • create a powerful sense of place and identity within the Hobart CBD.

The successful artist will identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and either have been born in, or currently reside in Tasmania. Mentoring may be available, if needed.

Note: The advertising of this Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander public art commission is in accordance with an exemption granted by the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner (10/05/2019).
