Temporary road closures
The City of Hobart will close local roads for the purposes of conducting special events or to facilitate construction activities. However, closures cause inconvenience for road users, residents and traders. Closures for special events are only considered when the benefits for the community justify the closure.
All City of Hobart road closures are done under the authority of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982.
Please be aware that some road work and emergency activities do not require approval by the City of Hobart.
Other road closures
The following are events occurring on public streets that are typically managed by Tasmania Police:
- motor vehicle race, cycling or athletic events
- demonstrations or street processions
- charitable collections.

Churchill Avenue between Lipscombe Avenue and Ascot Avenue, Sandy Bay
Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that 331 Churchill Avenue, will be closed to traffic from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday 4 May, Saturday 18 May, Saturday 1 June and Saturday 15 June 2024 for crane works.

Brooke Street and Despard Streets, Hobart
Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Brooke Street and Despard Street will be closed to traffic from 6 am to 6 pm from Monday 22 April to Wednesday 24 April 2024 for road works.

Hampden Road between Ellerslie Road and Sandy Bay Road, Battery Point
Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Hampden Road between Ellerslie Road and Sandy Bay Road will have the following closures for stormwater upgrades:
- be closed to traffic from 7 am to 4 pm on weekdays from Tuesday 13 February to Friday 29 March 2024
- be reduced to one lane of traffic, managed by traffic controllers, from 7 am to 4 pm on weekdays from Monday 1 to Friday 26 April 2024

Edge Avenue between Augusta Road and McCann Crescent, Lenah Valley
Pursuant to Section 25(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Edge Avenue between Augusta Road and McCann Crescent will be closed to traffic from 7 am to 4 pm on weekdays from Monday 22 April to Thursday 9 May 2024 for road works.

Murray Street from Liverpool Street to Collins Street, Hobart
Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Murray Street from Liverpool Street to Collins Street will be closed to traffic from 12 am to 6 am on Tuesday 23 April 2024 for crane works.

Victoria Street from Harrington Street to the end of the street, Hobart
Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Victoria Street from Harrington Street to the end of the street will be closed to traffic from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday 11 May 2024 for an event.

Brisbane Street between Elizabeth Street and Murray Street, Hobart
Pursuant to Section 19(1)(c) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that the west bound lane of Brisbane Street between Elizabeth Street and Murray Street will be closed to traffic from Friday 15 December 2023 to Friday 28 November 2025 to facilitate building works at 80 Brisbane Street.
The road will be open to two-way traffic from Friday 20 December 2024 to Sunday 5 January 2025.

Quayle Street, Sandy Bay
Pursuant to Section 41 and 42 of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, the City of Hobart advise that the bridge structure across the Sandy Bay Rivulet adjacent to 4 Quayle Street has been temporarily closed to vehicular traffic in the interests of public safety, while consideration is given to practical means to repair or upgrade the structure.

Bathurst Street (between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street) and Criterion Street, Hobart
Pursuant to Section 20(1) of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982, notice is given that Bathurst Street (between Murray Street and Elizabeth Street) and Criterion Street will be closed to traffic for the purpose of conducting the Farm Gate Market from 6 am to 3 pm every Sunday.

Salamanca Place, Hobart
Salamanca Place is closed to traffic each Saturday from 5.30 am to 6 pm under the Salamanca Market By-law for the Salamanca Market.
