A connected community is a safer community. By getting to know your neighbours and working together to prepare your street or neighbourhood, you can actively reduce your bushfire risk.

Organise working bees to assist each other in preparing properties; share advice, knowledge and experiences to boost your resilience; and look out for each other during bushfire season and at other times.

Check if you have any elderly, infirm or otherwise vulnerable people in your street who may need assistance in an emergency and offer to help them with their preparations.

If you feel you may need extra help, reach out to your neighbours and initiate a discussion.

You can even join or start a bushfire-ready neighbourhood group. These street-based groups support people living in bushfire areas to work together to devise plans and actions to suit their lifestyle, environment and community. More information at
