Assistance for our hospitality sector
The City of Hobart wants to support business operators as they move along the Roadmap for a COVID-safe Tasmania, including complying with the physical distancing requirements and occupation limits.
To do this, we have established a process where businesses can apply to amend their existing permits or apply for a new permit to occupy a public space within the Hobart municipal area, where possible, to give them more space to trade.
Permit to occupy may be issued to restaurant and café owners and operators to place tables, chairs, umbrellas and other furniture used for outdoor dining. Minimum dimensions must be maintained so that pedestrians can easily move along a footpath, and other conditions and fees apply. A permit will be issued only if the safe and convenient access and movement of pedestrians is maintained.
Application fees associated for these permits have been waived until 30 March 2022.
For more information visit the permit to occupy a public space page, or contact the Executive Manager City Placemaking, Philip Holliday on 03 6238 2589 or email@example.com.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause major impacts on the Hobart community, businesses and our economy.
The Economic Response and Recovery Framework and Action Plan were developed to guide how the City is approaching immediate and medium-term economic recovery. These were built on engagement with Hobart businesses and community members through interviews, and ongoing conversations through City projects and programs.
