Lighting, Roads, Footpaths and Street Cleaning

The Hobart City Council is responsible for maintaining and replacing most of the physical assets within the road reservation. These include the road, footpaths, street lights, seats, trees, stormwater pits, street signs, barriers and services.

Roads and Footpaths

The Council is responsible for an extensive network of roads and footpaths, both in terms of managing the safe and efficient movement of traffic and pedestrians, as well as ensuring the assets are well maintained. It has an active programme of inspections and implementing improvements in traffic management.

Street Lighting

Council is responsible for the provision of street lighting in the Hobart municipality.

Retaining Walls and Boundary Fences

The Council is usually responsible for retaining walls where they are located on the road reservation and support the road, footpath and prevent them from collapsing onto private property.

Gas Installation

Natural gas is now available to most residence as an alternate energy source.

Street Cleaning

The Council provides a street cleaning program throughout the CBD and suburban areas.

New Vehicle Crossings

Council can provide advice and quotes to the property owner for the construction of vehicle crossings.
