Destinations

Mt Wellington

Mt Wellington provides the backdrop to Hobart and is a short distance by vehicle from the City Centre.

The Mountain provides for residents and visitors alike with walking and mountain biking trails, excellent views of Southern Tasmania and a rich natural history.  Walking routes from the centre of the City to Mt Wellington provide for a spectacular day out.

A trip to Wellington Park is a highlight for both tourists and locals, however incidents can be avoided by following a few simple guidelines:

Before you leave home

Driving Safely

  • Leave double the normal distance between your vehicle and the car in front;
  • Remember that braking takes much longer in icy conditions;
  • Be patient on the road as traffic may be slow;
  • Check the details on the electronic sign on Huon Road outside the Council depot.

Road Closures

  • Road closures are only ever implemented for reasons of public safety;
  • Please follow the directions of field staff and do not attempt to drive your vehicle past a closed barrier;
  • Whilst we try and ensure that Pinnacle Road is open at all times, sometimes this is not possible.

Have a safe and enjoyable time.

The Wellington Park Management Trust, which brings the various Councils together who's boundaries intersect in the park, maintains the  Wellington Park Management Trust website with information about access to the mountain.

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are "magnificent in any season" and Australia's second oldest botanical gardens with significant trees and historic plant collections. Entry is generally free. The gardens are located on the Domain, a large bushland area adjacent to the Hobart CBD. Directions to the Gardens are available from the Visitor Information page on the The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens Website.
