The Hobart City Council has endorsed a new strategy to guide Council's economic development focus for the next five years.
The Economic Development Strategy 2009 - 2014 compliments the Council's existing Vision 2025 Strategic Plan and is based on the results of a consultancy commissioned by the Council looking at the industry gaps and opportunities in Hobart. The strategy was developed with strong stakeholder consultation through the Council's Economic Development Advisory Forum - a high level external advisory group comprising 20 of the City's key academics, developers, business owners and industry groups.
Although the Council recognises there are many important economic activities that exist within the City, the strategy is based on the areas where the Council can make the most difference.
The strategy focuses on four priority areas:
- Inner City Development Plan
- Facilitating Office Based Activity
- Expanding Higher Education
- Growing the Research Sector.
