Futures Committee - Alderman Reception

 

Futures represents the interests and opinions of young people to the Hobart City Council and its employees.  The role of Futures members is to highlight youth issues to the Hobart City Council and participate in the Council?s response to these issues.

The role of futures is to:

  • Through consultation represent the views and needs of young people and be a link between young people, the community and Hobart City Council.
  • Act as a resource and where appropriate be involved in the planning, development and implementation of Council events, programs, developments and projects that are specific to or involve young people.
  •  Act as a resource to Council in relation to identifying and addressing issues and gaps in service for young people as well as acting as a resource in relation to decision making on Council matters relating to young people.
  •  Participate in the development and implementation of Council policies that relate to young people.
  •  With support seek funding and plan and deliver youth focused events in the Hobart municipal area.
  •  Actively promote a positive image of youth within the Hobart municipal area and greater community.
  •  Build positive relationships/partnerships with a variety of community groups within the Hobart municipal area.

Some things Futures have been involved in include:

  • National Youth Week Event - organising a large community event featuring a variety of performers and showcasing the contributions of young people to the community.
  • Youth Consultation - facilitating regular youth forums to consult young people on critical issues and provide information to Council staff.
  • Advising Council - regularly providing Council with advice on youth program delivery and initiating events and projects that respond to the needs of young people.


Futures Youth Advisory Committee was recently a finalist in the Pride Of Australia Medal 2006
