As a community, there are a number of environmental issues that can cause concern.
These sometimes involve noise associated with music, motor vehicles, machinery as well as heat pumps. This can seriously disrupt peoples’ lives, causing loss of sleep, interference to activities as well as emotional stress.
The Council has conducted air quality monitoring throughout the City and found that Hobart exceeds the national standards. As part of a two year project the Council also conducted a woodsmoke education project to provide for better operation of woodheaters as a way of reducing smoke emissions.
Other environmental nuisances include vermin control plus living with the introduced European Wasp.
Stormwater pollution is a major threat to the health of our waterways. The Council is constantly monitoring and undertaking improvements in this area.
Water management can only be efficient in terms of satisfying human needs and respecting environmental limitations if it is integrated with the management of other resources and all human activity.
