The McRobies Gully Waste Management Centre (WMC) is located at the western end of McRobies Road in South Hobart. This WMC has been in operation since 1975 and occupies approximately 20 hectares in the foothills of Mt Wellington.

As well as the disposal areas for the various waste types mentioned below the WMC also includes a Recycling Wall for the drop off of recyclables, a greenwaste mulching & composting facility and the Resource Hobart Tip Shop.
General mixed and domestic waste, construction & demolition waste (hard waste), green waste and a limited range of hazardous (i.e. controlled) waste types are currently accepted at the McRobies Gully WMC. Material that cannot be reused or recycled needs to be disposed of in a responsible manner. Charges are applied to recoup costs from the Hobart community and the region. Charges for recycling or waste sorted into material types, are kept lower than disposal charges to encourage recycling.
Council maintains an accredited Environmental Management System that has been implemented at the McRobies Gully Waste Management Centre in accordance with the Quality and Environmental Policy. The Management system includes an Environmental Aspects Register.
Council produced a Public Environmental Report regarding the environmental activities and performance of the McRobies Gully Waste Management Centre for the period 1 July 2005 to 30 June 2008. The Report covers a wide range of environmental aspects, such as emissions, energy use, waste minimisation, education and quality assurance.
