The Hobart City Council is responsible for the delivery of some of the state’s best known event activities.
A highlight is the world class Salamanca Market held each and every Saturday in historic Salamanca Place.
Other major events include the Hobart Christmas Pageant which sees the Hobart Central Business District come alive with thousands of spectators lining the route to watch the parade; and the annual Carols by the Bay.
The festive season continues with the annual Hobart Summer Festival featuring over a week of events and activities in and around Sullivans Cove. The Taste of Tasmania (fondly know as The Taste) is the icon event of the Hobart Summer Festival and is arguably the state’s largest food and beverage event.
In addition, the Council supports the City of Hobart Floral Show program.
Financial assistance is also given to a range of community, arts and sporting events through the Council’s annual Events and Festivals Grant Program.
