The Hobart City Council is responsible for maintaining and replacing most of the physical assets you can see in your street. These include the road, footpaths, street lights, seats, street trees, stormwater pits, street signs, roadside barriers and service covers that provide access to Council's water, sewerage and stormwater pipes beneath the road and footpath surfaces. The Council is usually responsible for retaining walls where they are located on the road reservation and support the road, footpath and prevent them from collapsing onto private property.
The Council is also responsible for the control of all parking and most traffic management functions on your street. The provision of traffic regulation signs and road markings is a shared responsibility with the State Government's Dept of Infrastructure Energy and Resources (DIER).
