Young People

Hobart City Council provides a range of programs for young people who both live in and access the city. These programs are part of Hobart City Council’s commitment to participating in the process of identifying young people’s needs and seeking solutions.

These Programs include:

Futures Youth Advisory Committee

Futures Youth Advisory Committee is about giving youth a voice. Futures works closely with Council on important issues for young people in the Hobart area, as well as organising major youth events for the city.

Youth ARC (Youth Action Resource Centre)

Youth ARC is located at 44 Collins Street, Hobart; at the back of the City Hall. Youth ARC responds to the needs of young people in the Hobart area and beyond both on a program and individual basis by providing options. Youth ARC provides a safe, youth friendly environment for all young people between the ages of 12 and 25 regardless of their gender, social situation, sexual orientation or philosophical beliefs.

Alternative Education

Hobart City Council, in partnership with the Department of Education in Tasmania, deliver two alternative education programs - ALTed for 16-18 year olds and EdZone for 13-16 year olds. Both programs have Teacher and Youth Worker support for the students and are aimed at assisting students to reconnect with schooling.

Transition & Pathways Program (TAPP)

TAPP is a program for young offenders or those at risk of offending who are between the ages of 21-25 years. It provides skills for young people through a five week life skills program, a five week work skills program and a two week placement in the workforce.

Youth Development

Hobart City Council is committed to identifying and responding to the needs and ideas of young people within Council's Youth Strategy. Council's youth development includes Street Youth Work and Skate Park Programs, an annual major project with Hobart schools, and a major youth event for National Youth Week.
