Registration of all dogs older than six (6) months and registration renewals are now due for the residents of the Hobart municipal area.

Renewal of Registration
To re-register your dog the following payment methods are available:

Online – through the Council’s on-line payment system

Mail – The application for dog registration, together with a cheque or money order (payable to the Hobart City Council) are to be mailed to the General Manager, Hobart City Council, GPO Box 503, Hobart, Tas. 7001

Credit Card Payments – telephone the Council’s 24 hour hotline on 1300 886 745. Payment by Mastercard or Visa Card.

Credit Card Payment online– Payments may be made using Visa Card or Mastercard on this web site,

In person – by calling into the Customer Service Centre, 16 Elizabeth Street, Hobart.
Please bring the completed application for dog registration with you.
Please note that you can only use the credit card payment option if there are no changes to your registered dog details.
New Dog Registration
To register your dog the following methods are available:

Online – download the application form from the Council’s web site. Complete the form, attach any documentation (e.g. veterinarian certificate for sterilisation) and either pay by mail or person (refer above).

Mail – Request a form to be mailed, faxed or emailed by contacting the Animal Control area.
Change of Circumstances
If there is any change in circumstances, such as address, ownership or death of the dog. Please notify the the General Manager in writing within 14 days in writing either by letter, email or fax. Failure to do so could lead to an infringement notice being issued.
If you own 3 or more dogs
A kennel licence is required if the owner has three or more dogs on property. An application form is required to be completed and submitted with Council. The fee for a kennel licence application is $67.00. Please contact the Animal Control area for further information.
