Hobart City Council strongly endorses environmentally sustainable development.
Council has a number of water related programs and projects in place to work towards sustainability and responsible use and management of natural resources. We are currently exploring a number of avenues to help the municipality manage its water consumption effectively such as harvesting roof water, rebates for water efficient devices and other schemes detailed in the Water Reform Package.
In recent years, Hobart City Council has been implementing a wide-ranging program of stormwater quality improvement initiatives. A number of projects have been completed or are underway that have been jointly funded by Council the Federal Government's Natural Heritage Trust and National Water Initiative. Stormwater pollution "hot-spots" that have been targeted under these projects include the Hobart Docks and Salamanca area, Hobart CBD, Cornelian Bay, etc.
