As the State’s Capital, the Hobart City Council plays a prominent role in fostering community and cultural development throughout Hobart.
The Council has a strong policy of consulting widely with the community to identify community needs. During 2006 the Council adopted a Vision for the City to assist in the long term planning to at least the year 2025. Following one of the largest consultation programs ever conducted for the city, the Council now has a continued pathway to plan for the future.
Long term planning is extremely important for the Council to ensure appropriate services; infrastructure and assets are in place for the community now and into the future.
The Council has steerage over issues important to all age groups from the very young to the very old; such areas cover access for people with disabilities, the arts, cultural and community events.
