The Hobart City Council has received its greatest ever accolade in winning the Gold Award at the 20th annual Australian Business Excellence Awards conducted by SAI Global.

Twenty seven years ago the first Hobart Christmas Pageant was held to celebrate the commencment of the festive season in the city.
Today it is Tasmania's largest Christmas parade and a hugely popular tradition, delighting both adults and children with the colourful community floats, spectacular dance procession, wondrous music and the thrilling arrival of Santa Claus.
The 2008 Myer Hobart Christmas Pageant will take place on Saturday 22 November commencing at 10.30am (patrons are recommended to find a viewing spot by 10.00am). Entries vary from the traditional to the contemporary with a range of community groups, businesses, clubs, charities, school groups and more.
The Pageant is a free event for spectators. The Myer Hobart Christmas Pageant is a fun activity for all the community.
The Hobart City Council's Environmental Health Officers are offering the challenge to all of Hobart's primary school children to participate in a Food Safety Poster competition.
The challenge is for school children to design and produce posters containing important food safety messages.

From 28 December 2008 to 4 January 2009 we go deep into the heart of the Taste. Hobart's Waterfront will be filled with aromas, sights and sounds as we celebrate contemporary Tasmanian produce through epicurean delights, artists and performers who test the boundaries of culinary and visual pleasure. There are many exciting new initiatives included within the Festival precinct, focusing on Princes Wharf and surronds, with an expanded and visually engaging site.
The Taste Festival will launch on Wednesday 19 November with full programming details and tickets for Tasmania's biggest New Year's Eve Celebration on sale from this date.

The Hobart City Council is proposing improved walking and cycling facilities from Marieville Esplanade to the City’s southern boundary with Taroona along Sandy Bay Road.
