The Hobart City Council has received its greatest ever accolade in winning the Gold Award at the 20th annual Australian Business Excellence Awards conducted by SAI Global.
Not only did the Council receive the Gold Award but it also received the coveted Excellence Medal, awarded to the highest performing organisation in the awards process. Find out More.
Nominations in the 2008 Hobart Exceptional Customer Service Awards closed 31 July. A fantastic result - with over 4000 nominations received! Thank you to each person who took the time to nominate, recognising the businesses and individuals who 'go the extra mile' to provide quality customer service. Mystery shopping and judging will take place during August and September. Category winners and the $2000 prize winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 2 October 2008.

The Draft Sustainable Transport Strategy 2008 outlines a range of issues with our current transportation system including hydrocarbon dependance and emmissions, transport economics along with health and suggests inital goals for the Council to pursue to create a more sustainable transport system. A short list of immediate projects also forms part of the strategy. Comments from interested parties close 30 September 2008.
With the finishing touches in construction and the installation of new signage recently completed, the Hobart City Council is proud to announce the opening of stage one of the North-South Track on Mount Wellington.
The Draft Hobart Regional Arterial Bicycle Network is a document that crosses Municipal boundaries and identifies where arterial cycling routes are needed across the region to facilitate safe and efficient transport by bicycle. The launch of the draft plan for public consultation by the Mayors of the five participating Councils on Friday 9th of May is a major step towards implementing such a network. Due to many requests for more time and the State Government's commitment to matching Council funding, dollar for dollar (Local Government Conference - Launceston Friday 20th June 2008) the consultation period has been extended until the end of July 2008.
