The Hobart City Council has received its greatest ever accolade in winning the Gold Award at the 20th annual Australian Business Excellence Awards conducted by SAI Global.

Hobart's Great Christmas Rush Competition is in town

Rush into Hobart city and grab your entry form from the Information Booth in Elizabeth Street Mall or the Hobart Travel Centre, Cnr Elizabeth & Davey Sts.  The clues are hidden within 12 murals across the city.

Follow the map on the back of the entry form, fill in the gaps, race back and drop your entry form into the entry box at the Information Booth* or the Hobart Travel Centre*. 

Win great prizes - a Panasonic 42" Plasma, Nintendo Wii and 70 gift vouchers up for grabs!  Entries open: 1 December to 29 December 2008.

*Information Booth opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm & Saturday 10am to 2pm.  Hobart Travel Centre is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays 9am to 5pm.  Both closed Christmas Day.

Park & Ride

Christmas Shopping couldn't be easier.....park at the Regatta Grounds and catch the FREE bus to the Hobart city centre.  Operating every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday until 24 December 2008.  First bus departs the Regatta Grounds at 9.30am and the last bus departs Liverpool Street at 5.30pm.

Introducing Salamanca Market Free Park & Ride Service

Park at the Regatta Grounds and catch the free bus service to enjoy the fabulous Christmas and festive season shopping experience of Australia's best outdoor market.  The Salamanca Market bus service operates every Saturday until 3 January 2009.  First bus departs 9am from the Regatta Grounds, last bus departs Salamanca Market at 3pm.  Buses depart every 20 minutes.

Drop off & Pick up points for Salamanca Market Service are;
Saturday 13, Saturday 20 & Saturday 27 December 2008 - Castray Esplanade - Metro Bus stop on Market side.
Saturday 3 January 2009 - Davey Street - Metro bus stop on the Market side.

Bush Adventures Program

The Bush Adventures program offers free nature based activites for all ages. The 2008/09 Summer program includes a range of adventures for adults and children.  Activities include ravaging reptiles and artistic naturally.  To view the full program details please click here.

The Taste Festival – Hobart’s Waterfront Celebration

From 28 December 2008 to 4 January 2009 we go deep into the heart of the Taste.  Hobart's Waterfront will be filled with aromas, sights and sounds as we celebrate contemporary Tasmanian produce through epicurean delights, artists and performers who test the boundaries of culinary and visual pleasure.  There are many exciting new initiatives included within the Festival precinct, focusing on Princes Wharf and surronds, with an expanded and visually engaging site.

The Taste Festival will launch on Wednesday 19 November with full programming details and tickets for Tasmania's biggest New Year's Eve Celebration on sale from this date.

Hobart City Council Apology - 20th Anniversary Tasmanian Gay Law Reform Group Stall Salamanca Market 1988

At a reception in the Hobart Town Hall on 10 December, the Lord Mayor of Hobart offered an apology on behalf of the Council for actions it initiated to ban the attendance of the Tasmanian Gay Law Reform Group from Salamanca Market 20 years ago.  Further details are available here.

Bushland Managment Strategy

The Hobart City Council Bushland Management Strategy 2007-2017 provides a long-term strategic framework for the future management and protection of Hobart's bushland values for the next ten years.  Copies of the strategy are available here.
