Hobart City is home to many natural waterways which snake their way from Mount Wellington and surrounds down through the city and into the Derwent Estuary.
In the past some of these waterways have been seen only as drains and even sewers. However, more recently, we have begun to recognise the great value in these assets. Our local rivulets provide us with drainage, native habitat, recreation areas and a great heritage. For these reasons, we are always looking at new ways to manage Hobart's waterways.
Catchment Management Planning
Council has undergone a Catchment Management Planning process for our major rivulets. Catchment Management Plans (CMPs) for Hobart Rivulet, New Town Rivulet, Sandy Bay Rivulet and Wayne Rivulet have been prepared and are publicly available. A CMP for Council's minor rivulets is currently being prepared.
