Planning Scheme Amendments

To help the community understand Hobart's planning system, Hobart City Council has prepared a Guide outlining the process of making amendments to a planning scheme.

The Scheme Amendment Guide explains how to apply for an amendment to the Planning Scheme including the information required to support a request for any change.

The Planning Schemes controlling development in the City of Hobart are amended periodically.

Representations in relation to advertised amendments may be made in writing addressed to the General Manager, GPO Box 503, Hobart 7001 or hand delivered to Council's Customer Service Centre at 16 Elizabeth Street, Hobart.  Note: Postal or hand delivered representations must be received prior to 5.15pm on the date of the representation expiry date to be accepted. 

Representations may also be made by electronic mail.  Representations made by electronic mail must be received no later than 12 Midnight on the date of the representation expiry date to be accepted and must be sent to representation@hobartcity.com.au.  Representations sent by electronic mail to any other e-mail address will not be accepted. 

Advertised Amendments

1/2012 Amendments - Battery Point Planning Scheme 1979

1/2012 Amendments - Sullivans Cove Planning Scheme 1997

The above planning scheme amendments have been certified in accordance with section 35 of the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993.

The amendments excise the area bounded by Montpelier Retreat, Hampden Road, James Street and Knopwood Street from the Battery Point Planning Scheme 1979 (BPPS) and include it in the Sullivans Cove Planning Scheme 1997 (SCPS) in the Mixed Use Activity Area 2.0.

The amendments also propose the following changes:

  • Places of cultural significance within the area are deleted from the BPPS Schedule E and included in the SCPS Schedule 1;
  • SCPS Figures 2, 4, 5, 5A, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9b, 10 and 11 are amended to include the area in question and apply relevant provisions.

The amendments are on display at the Hobart City Council Customer Service Centre, 16 Elizabeth Street Hobart or can be downloaded below.

Battery Point Planning Scheme 1979

Amendment 1/2011 - Amendment to insert a new Schedule K - Significant Trees

The Tasmanian Planning Commission has given final approval to the above amendment which came into operation on 28th March 2012.

The amendment is for the purpose of inserting a new Schedule K - Significant Trees, which incluedes a number of trees nominated by the public and accepted by Council to be 'significant' trees.

Sullivans Cove Planning Scheme 1997

Amendment 2/2012 - Amendment to Clarify the General Industry Definition

The Tasmanian Planning Commission has given final approval to the above amendment which came into operation on 7th March 2012.

The amendment is for the purpose of clarifying the intent of the definition of 'General Industry' to make it clear that it does not include a retail or self service laundry.
