Heritage and Solar Technology Guidelines

Solar technology is a rapidly changing and evolving area. Home owners in Hobart are showing keen demand and interest in taking up new solar technologies.

Council supports the use of solar technologies (through rate rebates) but recognises that guidance is needed in the choice and siting of solar units on heritage places and in heritage areas.

Our ‘Heritage & Solar Technology Guidelines ‘ have been prepared to help you plan for the installation of a solar system on your heritage listed property. They include information on solar heat pumps as a viable alternative to solar hot water systems in appropriate circumstances.

Council’s aim is to ensure that new solar technologies are positively integrated into a home situation so that the visual impacts on the heritage qualities of places of historic and architectural merit are minimised.
