Rates and charges for the 2011/12 financial year:

General Rate
A component of the general rate equal to 7.117 cents in the dollar of the AAV is levied on all rateable land within the municipal area. The general rate is levied in order to cover the cost of services such as roads, parks, planning, tourism, recreation and administration.
A fixed charge component of the general rate equal to $50 for the purpose of funding landfill rehabilitation works at Council's McRobies Gully landfill site. For more information on the Landfill Rehabilitation Levy, please refer to the Landfill Rehabilitation Levy flyer.
Waste Management Service Charge
The Waste Management Service Charge for residential properties will be $200.00 and for non-residential properties $400.00. This represents the second (and final) year of a two-year staged introduction of waste management service charges, which have now replaced waste management service rates completely. In effect, from 1 July 2011, all similar properties will pay the same amount for waste management services.
Stormwater Removal Service Rate
A stormwater service rate of 0.52 cents in the dollar of the AAV is levied on all rateable land within the municipal area.
Fire Levy Service Rate
This is not a Council owned or operated service. The Council is required to collect this revenue on behalf of the State Government, which is then passed on to the Tasmanian Fire Service.
The fire levy service rate of 1.14 cent in the dollar of the AAV is levied on all rateable land within the municipal area. A fire rebate of 0.84 cents in the dollar is applicable for rural properties and properties in the Fern Tree area. The minimum fire levy is $35.00.
Penalty and Interest
Penalty of 3% flat will be charged on unpaid instalments in accordance with Section 128(1)(c) of the Local Government Act 1993, and thereafter interest at the rate of 11.47% per annum.
All local government rates are exempt from GST.
