Outcomes of community engagement - Stage 2
In August 2014 the Council resolved to release for public exhibition draft concept plans to seal the Hobart Rivulet Park track. The project proposal continues the implementation of the Hobart Rivulet Park Strategic Master Plan 2011 with a proposal to construct a three metre wide, concrete shared use path following the current Hobart Rivulet Park track alignment from the Molle Street entrance through to Tara Street, and lighting to improve park user amenity.
Public exhibition of the draft concept plans was undertaken during September and October 2014 with the results reported to the Council in December. The proposal generated significant community interest with divergent views expressed during the consultation. The Council therefore resolved to go back to the community for a second round of engagement.
In March 2015 nine stakeholder groups were invited to attend a facilitated on-site workshop. There was general agreement that construction of the lower Molle Street to McKellar Street section of the park with a concrete shared use path should proceed. However there was less support for construction of a single concrete shared path beyond Gore Street, and a strong preference expressed for the maintenance of a single gravel shared use path beyond MacFarlane Street.
The results of the workshop are presented in the consultant report Hobart Rivulet Park Shared Use Path Stakeholder Consultation – Stage 2 (April 2015).
The Council has resolved to proceed with the construction of the Molle Street –McKellar Street section of Hobart Rivulet Park Shared Path as a single, three metre wide concrete shared use track that follows that current track alignment. Upon its completion evaluation of the use of the new path will be undertaken to inform the design of the track throughout the remainder of the Hobart Rivulet Park.
