Lord Mayor's Welcome

Thomassmall.jpgFirstly, let me offer you a big "Welcome" if this is your first visit to our website or indeed to our wonderful city.  If you have visited us before, I do hope you find the site informative and that the capital City exceeds your expectations.

Hobart is a Capital City that welcomes visitors from across Australia and around the world.  It is a diverse city which warmly embraces other cultures.  It is a city which prides itself on community and communities.

Hobart has a great number of heritage buildings and is linked to a fabulous maritime history.  It is Australia's gateway to the Antarctic and there are many other facets you may wish to explore - our wonderful Maritime Museum, the Museum of Old and New Art, the very special Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, the walking trails and bike tracks, the many antique shops and art and craft galleries across the City, the beautiful historic Theatre Royal, the old Campbell Street Gaol and Female Factory sites with their fascinating history, the fabulous Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and of course the superb views from the top of Mount Wellington - and much, much more!

As a city we can continue to work together to help maintain the image of a friendly, welcoming community for which we are so well known - a Capital City that Tasmania, even Australia, can indeed be proud of.

Please take the time to further explore our website and, if you happen to be a visitor, be sure to call in to our Travel and Information Centre on the corner of Davey and Elizabeth Streets, opposite the Hobart Council Centre.
