The following graph shows the number of people employed within each industry of Hobart's economy.

Hobart's workforce comprises approximately 44,700 individuals, made up of around 16,700 residents and approximately 28,000 people who travel from outside the city to work[i].

The City hosts 52 per cent of all employment in Greater Hobart and boasts high labour force participation of 62 per cent[ii] and below State levels of unemployment at 3.5 per cent[iii].

Of the 44,700 workers in the City of Hobart, 30 per cent are employed in Professional roles and 21 per cent are in Clerical and Administrative roles[iv]. 43 per cent of Hobart's resident population have non-school qualifications including bachelor and postgraduate degrees, diplomas and certificates[v]. The higher level of bachelor degree qualifications in Hobart City reflects the area's prevalence of knowledge-based workers.
