Over 60 per cent of Hobart's working population is office based, employed in managerial, professional or clerical and administrative occupations.
This highlights the City's reliance on an office based workforce and the associated retail and service industries that support them.
As a result, it is critical that the Council maintain a focus on what is happening in this sector and that there is the ability for future growth of office based employment.
Since 2000, the office vacancy rate in Hobart has dropped dramatically to the current rate of 3.7 per cent. Total office stock has also increased during this time as the number of office based business increases in the City.
From the Council's viewpoint, we want to monitor supply and demand of office accommodation, anticipate future trends and promote the strengths of Hobart as a location for office based activity.
The Council will play a facilitating role, working closely with key stakeholders such as developers, the Property Council and State Government.
